Santa Fe is a great place to visit any day of the year, but some of the greatest Santa Fe events are almost upon us and we couldn’t be more excited. September means many fun times are ready to be had here in Santa Fe.
The Burning of Zozobra is one interesting and fun annual event. Zozobra is a giant bogeyman marionette that is set ablaze each year. This 93 year old tradition will take place on Friday, September 1. Zozobra is 50 feet 2 inches tall and weighs in at about 2,000 pounds. He is said to be responsible for all of the negative thoughts and disappointments that take place in life. Each year, those disappointments go up in flames. This unique and entertaining event is a must for anyone new to the Santa Fe area.
The Fiesta Fine Arts and Crafts Market is a great way to spend Labor Day Weekend. Conveniently located near Casa Culinaria Don Gaspar at the Santa Fe Plaza, the market is free to attend and features tons of one-of-a-kind treasures sure to excite. Of course food booths will also be onsite to excite some of your other senses. The market will be open for cruising September 2 – 4 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and again on September 8 – 10.
The Santa Fe Fiesta is coming right up and is one event you will not want to miss. Established in 1712, the Santa Fe Fiesta is heading into year number 305 and is the oldest running civic celebration in the country. Running from September 1 – 10 in the Santa Fe Plaza, the Fiesta De Santa Fe commemorates and educates all in attendance about historically significant events in Santa Fe’s past. The Mariachi Extravaganza definitely qualifies as an extravaganza. Held at the Santa Fe Opera, you will find one incredible musical experience that also honors traditions of the Southwest. Internationally known Mariachi Garibaldi wows audiences with each passionate performance. The extravaganza is one night only, Saturday September 2 at 7:30 pm.
